As the saying goes, "The wise man has no fear." But I'm not sure if that applies to me. The landlord, who had never broken a phone screen before, just experienced his first cracked screen—this time for a Xiaomi Mi Mix. He took off his jacket and put it in his pocket. The phone fell, hit the cold concrete floor, and shattered right there. Looking at it, it was definitely broken.
No way! The Mi Mix hadn’t even been scratched on the steel film. Before that, I had boasted how good the screen was—after a year, not a single scratch, and I didn’t even care about collecting fingerprints.
But here's the good news: when I bought the one-year accident insurance for 249 yuan, I contacted Xiaomi customer service and sent it in for repair. But wait, the landlord only owns one phone? Before the S7E was used by my mother, the IPX was still unopened at home (the landlord is a Xiaomi fan, not an Apple user), which led to a very awkward situation.
About seven days later, the landlord’s business was busy (pretending to be). Not having a phone was uncomfortable, so he didn't rush to send it. When the 15-day deadline approached, I saw a message:
"1299 RMB, historical low price? And they include a Mi plug, phone card, and original foil. I've always wanted to buy a MAX, but I hesitated to make the purchase."

**Reasons to Purchase**
The landlord gradually moved away from the road where pseudo-flour turned into rice flour. In fact, I’ve always liked large-screen phones because I use my phone daily for reading books. A bigger screen makes it easier to read more text (remembering the KO that sleeps under my pillow).
When the Mi MAX was first released on May 10, 2016, I really wanted to get one. However, the S7E was still new, and its screen size was decent. Compared to my taste, it was still in the honeymoon period. There was no need to upgrade, so I held back.
Later, when the Xiaomi MIX was released on November 4, 2016, it was truly impressive. The full-screen design completely exceeded the S7E, even though the curved edges were hard to grip.
After that, I finally rushed to grab one. The big screen felt great, smooth and silky. Although the color quality wasn’t as good as Samsung, the S7E was already outdated, and the new model had taken over.
Because I liked the MIX1, I kept an eye on the MIX2. But after its official release, I found it wasn’t as attractive as the MIX1. It had a smaller screen, and when I went to the store to try it out, the rounded edges didn’t feel as good as the original. I wasn’t ready to switch yet. After all, for me, the biggest function of a phone is reading books and browsing shopping apps. Performance isn’t that important. As long as the screen is big enough and colors are nice, that’s fine. For memory and storage? Not important. How big is a multi-million-word TXT file?
One year later, on May 25, 2017, the Xiaomi MAX2 was released. Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention. After all, I was still using the MIX. But a few days ago, when I needed to prepare a new phone, I discovered there were actually two models available, and I decided to go straight to the beginning.

When I wrote this article, I thought seriously about what I consider when buying a phone. As a former Samsung loyalist, from the T108 flagship all the way to the S7E, I eventually switched to Xiaomi. Now, the "price" doesn't matter, nor does the "flagship" status or the configuration score. After all, I just use it to browse the web, read novels, and answer calls. It just needs to be comfortable, with a big enough screen and a simple system.
Switching from Samsung to Xiaomi was also due to Xiaomi's native UI doing well. This purchase of the MAX is another step on the road to being a "rice flour" user.

They included a tempered film. I still prefer tempered glass, except for some curved phones that are hard to fit. For most phones, a tempered film is better. From past experience, it can help prevent a broken screen.

Also sent a SIM card, but since I already have a phone, I haven’t tested it yet. I guess few people now have only one phone number?

Opening the box, the Mi MAX body is visible. The front bezel is not too small for the screen. The natural protective film is essential, but I don’t agree with the slogan “born for fever.†In reality, Xiaomi’s product line is more about “value for money†than “fever.†I understand that “fever†refers to products made with extreme craftsmanship, top-tier in their category, regardless of price or cost-effectiveness.
To say “fever,†there's only one model—the original MIX1.
Of course, the slogan still needs to be shouted, and the ideal is good. I hope Xiaomi can bring us some “fever-grade†products in the future.

**Phone Manual**

Then remove the charger and cable. The Mi MAX uses the same Type-C interface as the MIX.

Compared to the MIX1, the MIX1 uses the original leather case, which looks like a big circle. I think the original leather case is really good, with good shock absorption. I dropped it on the concrete floor several times, and it only got a few scratches on the corners. No broken screen. Maybe it's my luck. But it finally broke during the insurance period, so I felt it was worth it.

After turning it on, is the size difference reduced?
MIX1 screen size: 6.4 inches, resolution: 2040 × 1080 pixels
MAX2 screen size: 6.44 inches, resolution: 1920 × 1080 pixels
Actually, the difference isn’t that big, right?
In my opinion, the Mi MAX2 is essentially a lower version of the MIX1.
However, there are differences in usage. The MIX uses virtual buttons, while the MAX2 has physical buttons, which may require a larger thumb span. After using the MIX, I switched to using my finger, but physical buttons do reduce nail-to-screen friction.
Both have similar weight, but due to size, the MIX feels significantly stronger than the MAX2. Since I like reading on the phone for long periods, the side keys are used for page-turning. The MIX’s side keys feel smoother and stronger, making them more suitable for extended use, while the MAX2’s side keys are more prominent and can cause finger discomfort.
The biggest advantage of the MAX2 is its battery life, which is also one of the best features of a standby phone. As for the MIX1, performance is somewhat outdated. WHO CARES?

The back is a champagne gold metal cover.

The camera also has foil protection.

Fingerprint unlock location is easy, but I think screen-based thumb unlocking will be the trend in the future.

At the bottom, there's a Type-C interface and microphone/speaker. Sound quality is acceptable for a phone.

**Follow-up & Summary:**
On December 27th, SF Express delivered the broken Mi Mix to Beijing. On the 31st, I received a message saying that EMS Beijing had sent it. On the 2nd, I received the phone. It looked like a big box. After opening it, it was aggressive. Was this a new phone?

Not only did they replace it with a new phone (still sealed), but they also sent back the matching case from the old phone? Is this affection or mockery?

The new phone worked right out of the box. No separate drying list here. After all, there are many orders for the Mi Mix.

However, in my mind, when I called customer service, I only said I needed to replace the broken screen. They reminded me to back up the data, but I didn’t ask for a new one directly.
The landlord is a bit careless. I just took out the SIM card and didn’t back anything up. I thought replacing the screen would be enough. I didn’t think the system might lose data.
What? I didn’t expect to get a new one. Not to mention losing photos and documents stored for a long time, I shivered at the thought of reinstalling so much software. But there's nothing to worry about. What else can I do?
So I want to remind everyone of my lesson:
1. If you buy a full-screen phone like the Mi Mix, Samsung S7E, S8E, or IPX, whether you think your hands are steady or not, if you have screen insurance, be sure to buy it. Once the screen breaks, fixing it costs at least 1000 RMB. The chance of breaking the screen is really high.
2. How to handle Xiaomi accident insurance? There seem to be several situations. I’ve seen some cases where they repaired the screen and sent it back, others got a new machine. Whether it's a new one or a replacement, I’m not sure yet.
3. Just in case, if there are important data on your phone, be sure to back it up. Also, completely delete all data and software from the returned phone. (Additionally, someone said you can ask Xiaomi technicians to back it up, but you can do it instantly and be safe.)
4. Even if it's a new one, it takes about a week to get it back. During this time, you should prepare for daily use. Like the landlord, I changed to another phone first.
5. After all, it's a budget model. Although the Mi Mix and MAX2 have almost the same screen size, the MIX fully dominates in feel, color performance, and response speed. Of course, the MAX2 has a powerful battery life. Even though its battery capacity is less than twice that of the MIX, under the same operation, its battery life should be more than twice that of the MIX.
Therefore, if you like a large-screen phone with super battery life, the Mi MAX2 is still a good choice at the thousand-yuan level.
