Internal and external cooperation to ensure grid security

Employees from Fengxian Power Supply Company are conducting inspections on substation equipment to ensure a stable power supply during the winter season.

Since the winter of 2017, the peak load on the national grid in Fengxian has reached approximately 1.37 million kilowatts, approaching the highest level recorded in 2016. As temperatures continue to drop, there is still potential for a gradual increase in power demand. Currently, the power supply in the district remains stable and sufficient to meet the needs of residents and businesses alike.

In preparation for the winter season, Fengxian Power Supply Company launched a major maintenance campaign to ensure the reliability of the power grid. Comprehensive inspections were conducted on existing power lines and equipment, allowing for early detection of potential issues and ensuring the grid is ready for the cold weather ahead. At key load areas such as Qingcun and Jinhui, operational adjustments and new line investments were implemented to enhance the grid’s capacity to handle increased demand. For instance, the third main transformer at the 35 kV Zhuangxing Substation was activated, boosting the area's power supply capability. Additionally, upgrades were carried out at 220 kV stations like Tairi and Xinghuo, incorporating more advanced power systems to improve efficiency and safety.

To support large-scale infrastructure projects, dedicated power lines were installed to prevent any disruptions to the progress of Rail Transit Line 5. Meanwhile, construction along Jinhai Road and Daye Highway continued smoothly with the active involvement and coordination of electric workers, ensuring that power supply remained uninterrupted throughout the process.

To protect the electricity needs of local residents, Fengxian Power Supply Company strictly managed the operation and maintenance of the grid. Detailed contingency plans were developed for each substation and main transformer, covering potential failures in different components. Grid stability checks were performed regularly based on monthly major projects, and early warnings were issued to relevant departments to proactively manage risks associated with large-scale developments. During maintenance periods, the system’s capacity was carefully assessed to identify weak points and conduct safety analyses, aiming to minimize the risk of power outages or other unexpected incidents.

The company also maximized its resources by coordinating manpower, organizing over 10 teams dedicated to construction, maintenance, and repair work. These teams can quickly respond to any urgent demands. Repair crews are strategically deployed so that they can reach any part of the 700-square-kilometer jurisdiction within about 30 minutes. In the control room, operators closely monitor real-time data from the automation system, issuing instructions efficiently and responding calmly to any issues that arise. Through strong internal and external collaboration, the Fengxian Power Supply Company is working hard to keep the power grid running smoothly during the winter months.
