In November, the SSD market experienced a rather sluggish performance. Despite the Double 11 shopping festival, the limited price reductions failed to spark significant consumer interest. Most buyers still perceive SSDs as overpriced, and this sentiment was reflected in the market dynamics. Notably, Jin Taike managed to secure the top spot on the mainland's SSD shipment list during November, largely due to its relatively lower pricing. This highlights the ongoing demand for more affordable storage solutions. According to Bo board’s statistics, based on factory SELL IN shipment data from both channel and e-commerce sales (excluding industry SSDs and OEM shipments), the top 11 SSD brands in China saw an approximate 7% decline in shipments compared to October 2017. The overall shipment performance remained weak, indicating a challenging period for the sector. The top five brands—Jin Taike, Taipower, Kingston, Colorful, and Yingchi—experienced similar trends, with most seeing a drop in sales. While some brands like Minghao and others maintained stable performance, the overall market remained subdued. For detailed insights into other brands, refer to the accompanying chart. The situation has been further complicated by the high cost of NADA flash memory, which has put pressure on SSD manufacturers that don’t have their own memory supply chains. Many second- and third-tier brands are now forced to reduce prices to remain competitive, potentially leading to a scenario where consumers can "buy one gigabyte for a dollar." While this may seem alarming for manufacturers, it ultimately benefits consumers by making SSDs more accessible and affordable in the long run. As competition intensifies, we may soon witness a shift in pricing strategies that could reshape the entire market.
