Recently, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have shown that using a specific frequency of flashing LED lights can significantly reduce beta-amyloid plaques in the visual cortex of Alzheimer's disease mice.

The principle of action is to stimulate the brain to inhibit the production of beta-like amyloid plaques by inspiring a brain wave called gamma oscillations, while stimulating the activity of cells that can drive out these plaques.

Li-Huei Tsai, director of the MIT's Picower Institute for Learning and Memory and Peacock's neuroscience professor, said that whether such treatments are suitable for human Alzheimer's disease still needs further research. A related research article with Professor Cai as the main author was published in the journal Nature, which was published online on December 7.

Professor Cai believes: "(To do further research is) because the uncertainty is very prominent. For example, many examples of successful experiments in mice have failed in humans. But if people can produce and treat this treatment, A similar response in the mouse trial, then I think the potential of this therapy will be enormous, because it is a non-invasive treatment, and relatively simple and easy to carry out."

Professor Cai and MIT Media Lab, associate professor of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research, bioengineering and brain and cognitive experts, and one of the authors of Edbyyden, have collaborated. A company called Cognito Therapeutics was launched to test in human patients. The first authors of the paper include graduate student Hannah Iaccarino and media lab assistant researcher Annabelle Singer.

Michael Sipser, director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's School of Science, said: "This study may herald a breakthrough in understanding and treating Alzheimer's disease, a disease that afflicts millions of people around the world. Our researchers open up A new direction has opened new doors for studying this brain dysfunction and the formation mechanisms and preventive measures behind it. I am excited about this research."
