Universal Display (UDC) recently announced a long-term OLED materials supply agreement with BOE Technology Group (BOE). Under the new deal, UDC will provide phosphorescent OLED materials to BOE, marking an evolution from their initial partnership in 2014. This long-term collaboration highlights the growing importance of OLED technology in the display industry and reinforces BOE’s position as a major player in the market. BOE has been actively expanding its OLED production capabilities. In October 2017, the company started manufacturing flexible OLED displays at its B7 6 facility in Chengdu. The B7 plant was the first flexible AMOLED production line in China, with plans to begin mass production in early 2018. Although the facility is designed to produce 48,000 substrates per month, full capacity is expected to be reached only by mid-2019. In addition to the Chengdu plant, BOE announced the construction of a sixth-generation OLED factory in Mianyang in October 2016. This new plant will have a similar monthly capacity of 45,000 substrates and is scheduled to start operations in 2019. Reports suggest that BOE is aiming to become a key supplier for Apple, which has led to plans for a third flexible OLED production line. These developments underscore BOE’s strategic push to strengthen its presence in the global OLED market and meet rising demand from top-tier smartphone manufacturers.
