On January 15, 2018, the official website of the Chengdu Administration for Industry and Commerce released the results of a quality inspection on table lamps conducted in 2017. The report revealed that 14 batches of samples failed to meet the required standards. Several well-known brands were involved, including Daoguang Liangyan, Wenquxing, Hammet, Guangshibao, SOVER Song Wei, and others.
During the fourth quarter of 2017, the Chengdu Industrial and Commercial Bureau carried out a comprehensive quality inspection of lighting products across several districts, such as Wuhou, Qingyang, Jinniu, Jinjiang, Chenghua, Gaoxin, and Tianfu New District. The testing was entrusted to the Chengdu Product Quality Inspection and Research Institute Co., Ltd. The evaluation focused on multiple aspects, including product labeling, structural safety (such as blue light hazards, wire channels, stability, and clamping force), external and internal wiring, heat and fire resistance, protection against electric shock, durability, electromagnetic compatibility, and harmonic current levels. The findings indicated that some of the lamps did not meet national safety standards, with the most common issues related to external and internal wiring, heat resistance, fire safety, and voltage disturbances.
In response, the Chengdu Industrial and Commercial Bureau has instructed retailers to remove all unqualified products from shelves and take legal action against those who continue to sell substandard goods. Additionally, the affected businesses are required to implement necessary improvements and reapply for approval once they have passed the required inspections.
The inspection aimed to ensure consumer safety by identifying and addressing potential risks associated with low-quality lighting products. A list of the unqualified items and the companies involved was also published as part of the transparency measures.
