publishing B16.5 in 1996, and the standard is ASME B16.5

Tesla has officially announced its plan to expand its charging infrastructure across China, aiming to install 1,000 superchargers nationwide by the end of the year. In addition, the company will introduce the "New National Standard (GB/T 20234-2015)" charging interface for the Chinese market, specifically for the Model S and Model X vehicles. This move is part of Tesla's broader strategy to better align with local regulations and improve user convenience.
In upcoming mid-sized models, Tesla will no longer include the previously hidden charging port located near the left taillight. Instead, the new national standard charging interface will be positioned on the left rear fender, making it more accessible and user-friendly for Chinese drivers.
To support existing owners, Tesla has also launched a program offering free "new national standard" charging adapters to vehicles that are equipped with older charging interfaces in mainland China. This initiative ensures that all Tesla owners can benefit from the expanding charging network without needing to upgrade their vehicles.
Furthermore, Tesla will retrofit its existing Supercharger and destination charging stations across the country to support the new charging standard. So far, over 700 superchargers have been installed in 170 cities, with the goal of surpassing 1,000 units by the end of 2024.
