The Verge Chinese Station reported on November 6

Google's DayDream is undoubtedly the most potential mobile VR platform, one of the very good features is to support external remote control. You know, most mobile VR heads are integrated with the touchpad like the Samsung Gear VR. The design experience is not very good.

In addition, DayDream remote control is not just a mouse, but a body-like device equivalent to the hands of users in VR games and applications, providing a more realistic, more immersive operating experience.

Unfortunately, DayDream only supports Android phones, so iPhone users can only continue to use the old Google Card compatible VR heads? This is not the case. Merge VR is the only iOS device that will support the remote control. It may be the best choice before Apple really enters the VR market.

Merge VR has been on sale for some time, but its remote control accessories are still under development. Previously, Merge VR demonstrated early prototypes at the San Francisco VR Conference. The remote control was basically made using 3D printing and was still relatively crude.

The buttons on the remote control are more than DayDream, including two up and down arrow buttons, a circular arrow button, a home button, and a rear trigger button. It feels slightly complicated. We hope that the latest version will simplify the button design. In addition, Merge VR remote control not only supports its own products, but also includes some third-party VR headsets.

According to the promotional video released by Merge VR, the application experience of Merge VR remote control is similar to that of Day Dream, which can be moved, dragged, chopped, and accurately clicked.

Of course, it is still too early to judge whether the experience of Day Dream or Merge VR remote control is used. Because the mobile VR head display itself does not have a space tracking function, and there is no external camera to capture the movement of the handle, it is still not known how complex the remote control can perform.

As a mobile VR company, Merge VR does not want to follow Google's rules, in fact it is a good thing. Merge VR itself supports iPhone 7/6s series and Samsung Note 5 models. This relatively compatible compatibility is required by users, especially if Apple has not yet launched an official VR device. (Author: Adi Robertson compile: Ko)
